Welcome to the City of Saskatoon information page. I may have a biased opinion but Saskatoon is one of the best places to live. Saskatoon continues to flourish when the rest of the world's economy has seen many bumps. We are located centrally in Saskatchewan and it is the most populous city in Saskatchewan. It is estimated we have just under 225,000 in 2010. With the surrounding communities it is estimated at 257,300 in 2009. In 1901 we started with a mere 113 people. Saskatoon is also commonly referred to as the "Bridge City" for our 7 river crossings. The economy in Saskatoon thrives due to its diversity. It is strongly associated with potash, oil and agriculture but it is also fueled by various grains, livestock, oil&gas, uranium, gold, diamonds, coal and their spin off industries. Some of the other areas that bring people to our city are research and development at Innovation Place on the University of Saskatchewan campus. Innovation Place, founded in 1980, brings together almost 150 agriculture, information technology, and environmental, life sciences and agricultural biotechnology industries. Cameco, the largest publicly traded Uranium company in the world, is also based in Saskatoon and employs thousands of people locally, around Saskatchewan and around the world. The world's largest Potash producer, Potash Corp, also has its headquarters in Saskatoon. Saskatchewan is expected to see an economic growth rate of 6.3% in 2010 and a lot of that has to do with PotashCorp. |
